As an independent charter school, Stern MASS has its own School Board of Directors that meets quarterly during the school year. The nine voting directors of the Stern MASS Board of Directors include five members of the Alliance Board, two teachers, and two parents. Appointment of the teachers and parents are made by members of the board after considering recommendations of the principal. LAUSD reserves the right to appoint a single representative to serve on the Board. The Board meets quarterly, operating in accordance with the Brown Act, its Articles of Incorporation and its Bylaws.
The Stern MASS Board of Directors, the school administrative staff, and their respective representatives are responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of the Charter School, including, but not limited to, making necessary provisions for accounting, budgeting, payroll, purchasing, liability, insurance, and the like.
The Stern MASS Board of Directors is responsible for providing fiscal accountability by approving and monitoring the budget. The Stern MASS Board of Directors helps ensure effective organizational planning by approving long-range goals and annual objectives, monitoring the general policies such as health and safety, use and maintenance of facilities, and overseeing that Charter School resources are managed effectively. This goal is being accomplished primarily through hiring, training, supporting, reviewing the performance of, and if necessary, dismissing the administrative staff.
