State Superintendent Tony Thurmond announced in a press release the 162 middle and high schools recognized as 2019 California Distinguished School Recipients. Stern MASS was one of the recipients based on our education program and practices. Schools are invited to apply for this award based on their exceptional school performance for two consecutive school years or closing the achievement gap between two school years. Schools are eligible for this recognition in alternating year. Stern MASS has been a recipient for the past two years based on our CAASPP results and our signature practices of Claim-Evidence-Link Writing Structure (2017) and Formative Questioning Practices (2019).
Stern MASS is one of three Alliance schools also recognized this year. The other schools are Alliance Judy Ivie Burton Technology Academy High School and Alliance Patti and Peter Neuwirth Leadership Academy.
